Kimberly Marie Murphy, "Murph," daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Gordon) Murphy, was born January 17, 1961, in
Bennington, Vermont, passed peacefully on March 16, 2026. Kim lived a life defined by compassion, laughter, and unwavering dedication to the people and causes she cared about.
For more than 40 years, Kim served as a Registered Nurse, devoting her life to caring for others. Nursing was not just her profession-it was a reflection of who she was at her core. She began her career at the Vermont Veterans Home, where she first answered her calling to care for others, and it was there that she also chose to conclude her remarkable career-coming full circle in a place that meant so much to her. Her patients, colleagues, and friends knew her as someone with a remarkably kind heart, steady hands, and an incredible sense of humor that could bring comfort even in the most difficult moments.
Kim's spirit of service extended far beyond her nursing career. She joined Bennington Rescue Squad in 1984, where she became a pillar of the organization and a respected leader. Over the years, she served as President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, and was an active member of both the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Kim was part of the Executive Committee during the early years when it was entirely volunteer based, continuing her service as the organization evolved in 1999 to include paid positions for Bennington Rescue Squad staff. True to her character, Kim remained a dedicated volunteer throughout her entire tenure, never accepting financial compensation, giving her time and energy purely out of commitment and care for others.
She was also a proud 1,000+ call member, a testament to her unwavering dedication and the countless individuals she helped over the years-a true reflection of just how much she gave of herself.
To her family, Kim was so much more than her accomplishments. She was a deeply loving sister and a devoted aunt, someone who always showed up when it mattered most. Whether it was offering a listening ear, sharing a laugh, car ride adventures, shopping trips, or simply being present, Kim had a way of making everyone feel cared for and valued. Her family knew they could always count on her-her generosity, warmth, and loyalty were constant gifts in their lives.
Kim also found joy in life's simple, meaningful moments. She especially loved spending time at CL White Glass Shop, a place filled with laughter, friendship, and familiar faces where she felt truly at home.
Kim had a gift for bringing light into any room. Her quick wit and playful humor could lift spirits instantly, and her genuine kindness made people feel at home in her presence. She lived with a quiet strength and a selfless heart, always putting others first.
Kimberly is survived by her brother, James Murphy (Kim); her four loving nieces, Allicia Barnard (Brennon), Meghan Murphy, Erin Dickie (Darrick), and Jamie Murphy; and her two great-nieces, Ava Barnard and Harper Betit, and one great-nephew, Wilder Lane. She leaves behind a family who adored her and will carry her love forward every day.
Following Kim's wishes, there will be no formal funeral services.
