Noble Levesque Obituary

Noble Levesque Sr.

1941-2012 SHAFTSBURY Noble Levesque Sr., age 70, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 22, 2012, following a four-month battle with cancer.

Noble was born September 10, 1941, in Van Buren, Maine to Claude and Anita Levesque. He graduated from Van Buren Boys' High in 1959 and from East Coast Aero Tech in 1960.

In 1961, with his father, he bought Baker's Machine Shop in Van Buren, and began manufacturing farm equipment, gears, and sprockets. In Van Buren, Noble served as Chairman of the Town Council, was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, served as Deputy District Governor of the Lions' Club, and was a member of the Jaycees. In 1977, Noble sold Baker's to United States Tsubakimoto, and moved to Shaftsbury, Vt., to manage a Tsubakimoto plant -UST Bennington for eight years. In 1985, Noble bought Poly Two Press, where he created and published "Working People" magazine. From 1989 until his retirement in 2003, he managed and expanded the precast/prestressed concrete division for William E. Dailey, Inc.

In his retirement, Noble was committed to his volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed playing golf, travelling, and spending time with family and friends. The Bennington Habitat for Humanity will present the Noble Levesque Memorial Award annually to a volunteer who has contributed exemplary service constructing Habitat homes.

Noble married Elizabeth (Betty) Alosso on August 4, 1962. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their six children and 14 grandchildren. Through the years, he and Betty enjoyed cheering for their children and then their grandchildren from the sidelines. Noble will be remembered most for his commitment and love for his wife and family, his faith in the Lord, his enjoyment of singing and playing his guitar, his work ethic, his craftsmanship, his ability to design, build and fix just about anything, his sense of humor, and his competitive spirit on the golf course.

Noble is survived by Betty; by his sisters and their spouses, Geralda and Roger Cyr of Bowerbank, Maine, and Claudette and Hale Bartley also of Bowerbank; by his six children and their spouses: Deborah Levesque-Banks and Dennis Banks of Hope Valley, R.I., Noble and Patricia Levesque of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Susan and James Altland of North Bennington, Vt., Andrea and William Hogan of Shaftsbury, Vt., David and Tammy Levesque of Meredith, N.H., and Nicole and Mark Andres of Pensacola, Fla.; and by his 14 grandchildren: Devin P., Ryan and Paige Levesque, Alex, Nicholas, Emily, and Elyse Altland, Cody and Keira Hogan, Jordan Levesque, and Gabrielle, Ezra, Chloe, and Micah Andres.

The family wishes to thank members of Noble's medical team for their outstanding care and compassion, especially Dr. Marisa Friscia and her staff, Dr. Orion Howard and nurse, Linda Brown, the ER and Two East teams at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, and the staff from Bayada Home Health and Hospice.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of Noble's life will be held at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, VT at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25. A reception will follow at the Saint Francis Parish Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Bennington Habitat for Humanity through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.

Mrs. Leveque
The first time I meet Noble was on a warm January morning in my driveway in Pownal as he was loading that RV for a trip to the Patriots Game. He was so friendly I felt like I'd known him for years. He had a happy soul. He will be missed by many I know and you most of all. May you find comfort in your love and a smile and laugh in your memories.

To the entire Levesque family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I remember your dad well from high school and what a great man he was. I remember he and Patti taking such great care of me the day after my grandfather died and letting me spend the day with them to watch Nicole play AAU basketball during my junior year. Hold on to all of the wonderful memories and may God's comfort hold all of you during this time. Much love to you all...

To the whole Levesque Family,
The first time I met Noble, he was joking with me and giving me a hard time. I kept thinking to myself, "this is one cool guy." I didn't see him often the over the last 26 years, but a highlight was when his company (Dailey) was doing a bunch of work at ESPN and I was able to give him a tour and have lunch with him. My good pal Bill Hogan told me he talked about it for years. I remember that summer day like it was yesterday because he was so fascinated with the campus and took great interest in how I got the job there and what I did. I will always remember him for the great husband, father and grandfather that he was and smile whenever I think of him razzing me.
Love, Jay Sullivan (BIRD)

Dear Betty,
On behalf of the CLASS of 1959 of Van Buren Boys High and Sacred Heart High Schools, please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of one of our greatest classmates. We now reminisce on his unique sense of humor, his innovative ideas to create (or dismantle), his dancing and singing proficiencies, his sports abilities and, especially, his total friendliness to everyone. It was great to see and have him participate at our 50th Class Reunion in 2009. On a personal note - he was one of my closest friends from that "kindergarten" group at "Champlain School" and all through high school at VBBH. I spent more time at his house learning dance moves or messing up the "Levesque Barn", than at my own home. He leaves us all with a heavy heart, but with fond memories for having known him. Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
