Sarah Frost Obituary

Sarah E. Frost 1943 - 2011 EAST DORSET, VT Sarah Elizabeth Longacre Frost, 67, a resident of Frost Road in East Dorset and beloved wife of Jack Frost of East Dorset, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Sarah was born on July 30, 1943, in Belmont, Mass., daughter of Andrew Longacre and Marian Chandler Sykes. Her father, Andrew, born in Yonkers, New York, received a PhD from Princeton and was an early nuclear physicist. Mr. Longacre died in Rutland, Vt., in 1978. Marian was born in Evanston, Illinois, but spent years at the family home in Dorset. Marian passed away in Dorset in 1978. Sarah's life was full in so many ways. She was raised all over the country as a result of her father's professorships and his work on the government's budding nuclear program. After graduating from Bucknell and the University of Vermont, she taught grade school and middle school for over 30 years, both at the Dorset School and Flood Brook School. After retirement, she joined her husband as office manager at Frost Wells and Pumps in East Dorset. Throughout the years, her activities included singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school, being head of the Christian Education Committee at the United Church of Londonderry. She also headed the PTA for a time, coached cheerleading, and was both a Cub Scout and 4H leader and secretary for the Junior Bowling League in Manchester. During her blissful years with Jack in East Dorset, Sarah contributed her time to many local organizations and causes in the Northshire area. Her joys, besides loving to be with her grandchildren, included vegetable gardening, surveying the "Battenkill Rise" with her husband, Jack, lambing, the dogs, traveling, quilting, reading, and sharing dreams about her home with her devoted partner. Sarah's heart is saddened to leave this earthly world, but she is at last with her Lord, and will forever embrace and watch over all of those who touched her life. Sarah leaves in capable hands, two sons, W. Andrew Hazelton of Manchester and Robert E. Hazelton of Richmond, Va.; her daughter, Dr. Amy P. Martin, and her lovely grandchildren, Everett, Lily, Gracie, Ben, Erich, Elsa and Kate. Sarah also cherishes her step-children and step-grandchildren, David Frost and family of Lenox, Mass., Dan Frost and family of Dorset, Mike Frost and family of Charlotte,, Rob Frost and family of Hinesburg, and Heidi Frost and family of Norwalk, Conn. The blessings that surround us each and every day are all too often unnoticed or not acknowledged. May you all know that you were the pieces that helped to make me whole and make life beautiful! MEMORIAL NOTICE: A celebration of the life of Sarah Elizabeth Longacre Frost will be held Friday April 8, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, Dorset and East Rupert. The Rev. James H. Dear Drew, Beau, and Family, I am so sorry for the loss of Sally. In the short time I was blessed to know her I simply adored her. She was so kind, considerate and loving. I wish you the best in this difficult time.

I remember Sally as my colleague at the Flood Brook School where I taught music during the '68-'69 school year. I also lived in the apartment on Grace Hazelton's farm with my parakeet. That was the year I met my husband (Bob) who was the gym teacher. We were both saddened to read of Sally's passing and
extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family. Even though we knew Sally over 40 years ago, we well remember her positive and joyful nature.

It was always a blessing to be in Sally's presence. Despite her long and painful struggle, she always had a smile for me. When I saw the flag at half mast I knew that Sally had gone to a place where her suffering would finally be over. I will miss her terribly.

I remember the wonderful years teaching with Sally at Dorset. So many students, colleagues and parents will always have a special place in their heart for sharing a little bit of their lives with Sally. I could always bring out a smile on warming mornings at school when I would turn her air conditioner in her room on before she would arrive. My thoughts are with you Jack and her beloved family.
