Walter Moffit Obituary

BENNINGTON -- Walter Warren Moffit, 56, a resident of Safford Street, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, at his residence, following a long illness.

Born in Bennington March 9, 1950, he was the son of Darrell Moffit and the late Charlotte (Lake) Moffit. He received his education in the South Dorset and Wells schools.

In earlier years, Walter was employed as a caddy at the Dorset Field Club, where he also worked in the lounge and kitchen. He later worked at several restaurants in the Manchester area and at the J.K. Adams Co. in Dorset.

Walter enjoyed jewelry and collecting knick knacks.

Survivors include his companion of 28 years, Barbara Brace, of Bennington; his children, Kathy Moffit, of Manchester, and Brian Moffit, of Springfield; Barbara’s three children, who he helped raise, Kari Brace and Theressa Brace-Baker, both of Bennington, and Robert Brace, of Utah; his father, Darrell Moffit, of Wells; a sister, Mary Haskins, of Rutland; five brothers, Bruce Moffit, of Bennington, Phillip Moffit, of Stephentown, N.Y., Robert Moffit, of Bennington, William Moffit, of Granville, N.Y. and Kevin Moffit, of Wells; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter was predeceased by a brother, Darrell Moffit, who died May 6, 2006.

The funeral will be held from the First Baptist Church on East Main Street in Bennington, Thursday, Aug. 30, 2006, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jerrod Hugenot, pastor, officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.

Should friends desire, contributions in Walter W. Moffit’s memory may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.

hey walter was a great guy... he was loven caring person.. we always hang out... he stayed with us down in mass..boy we had fun..he was funny.. he always had u laughing..he always told my kids to call him uncle walt..they loved him alot..WALT WE WILL MISS U..
