PLATTE CENTER - Harold J. Janssen, 85, of Platte Center, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Platte Center with the Rev. John Hellwege officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Columbus.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and will continue Monday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Monday at 9:45 a.m. at the church.
Mr. Janssen was born Nov. 9, 1919, in rural Platte Center, a son of Gerhard and Katie (Gehring) Janssen. He attended District 28 School.
On Jan. 19, 1944, in rural Columbus, he was married to Luella Hellbusch. Mr. Janssen was a dairy farmer his entire life, retiring in 1978. He also worked for the Platte County Highway Department in road construction for a number of years.
He was a member of the Platte Center Fire Department, the Lions Club and Grace Lutheran Church, where he had served on several boards. He enjoyed flowers, gardening, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife of Platte Center; two sons, Alan (Margy) Janssen of Platte Center and Loren (Terri) Janssen of Columbus; one daughter, Lila (Richard) Brock of Platte Center; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Viola (Harold) Osten of Columbus; three sister-in-laws, Margie Janssen of Humphrey, and Betty (Ed) Behlen of Columbus; and one brother-in-law, Wilfred Hoessel of Columbus.
Preceding him in death were a sister, Lorraine Hoessel; and two brothers, Alvin Janssen and Gilbert Janssen.
