Amory Carhart Obituary
Born in New York City on July 11, 1951, he was the only son of Amory and Lucile Carhart of New York City and Southampton. He was educated in private schools in New York and New England and was a graduate of Colgate University and Columbia University earning a B.A. and M.B.A. respectively.
Amory made a lifelong career with Citibank in Manhattan and Zurich, Switzerland until he retired in 2000 and moved with his wife and son to the Berkshires to be near extended family.
On September 25, 1982 he married Karen Ekberg Carhart of Edina, Minnesota at St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City. They were married 26 years.
Mr. Carhart enjoyed speaking French, reading fiction, barbecue grilling for guests, mowing his lawn and planning international trips for his family. He was a member of clubs in Southampton, New York City and Lenox but most enjoyed opening his house to teens from Berkshire Country Day School and Lenox High School. Many teens called him "a father to us all."
Besides his former wife, he is survived by their son in college, Amory S. Carhart, III.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Wendy H. Carhart.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Amory Carhart will be held at Trinity Church in Lenox on Saturday, January 20, at 11:30 a.m., performed by The Reverend Michael Tuck.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, P.O. Box 64348, St. Paul, MN. 55164-9677 for Patient Aid

I was searching for the Irving Penn photo of Mrs. Amory S. Carhart and discovered Amory's obituary. I forwarded the sad news to Debbie Keyes, Peter Weeks and Mary Everett. We send our condolences. Amory was a great friend.

While searching for my father's obituary Thomas Carhart Amory (2001), I came upon the obituary for Amory S. Carhart.
I attended Miss Hall's School in Pittsfield MA '76 and I had no idea that there were Carharts in the area. My great Grandfather was Amory Sibley Carhart from NY, I grew up in Tuxedo Park, NY. I am wondering what the connection is.
I know this must be a terrible time for you. He was so young. My father died at 68 so I understand. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
