1949 - 2015 PITTSFIELD With family by her side, Carol Ann Mahar, 65, of 1450 North St., died peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Berkshire Place after a valiant fight with cancer. Carol was born in North Adams on August 30, 1949, daughter of the late Edward J. Noel, Sr. and Viola Noel (Lucia), and attended North Adams Public Schools, graduating from Drury High School (class of 1967) and North Adams State College. Carol was a longtime employee at the Berkshire Gas Company and retired in 2011. Friends, family, and the outdoors were Carol's passion and delight. She enjoyed canoeing and kayaking, golf, and entertaining at her home in Pittsfield. Carol loved a beach, and traveled extensively to find one; from Maine to the Cape to the Bahamas, nothing felt better to her than lying on a beach with a good book and her toes in the sand. For many years Carol loved to winter in Florida where she made many friends. Carol's deepest passion was her grandchildren, in whom her lessons of strength, independence, love, dignity, and kindness will live on. She leaves two sons, Blair Mahar and his wife, Greta Facchetti of Savoy, MA, and Scott Mahar of Northampton, MA; a daughter-in-law, Elise Starr of Northampton; two brothers, Edward J. Noel, Jr. and his wife, Judy of North Adams, and Jeffrey Noel and his wife, Lynn of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Maya, Vienna, Tess, and Chaz; and many beautiful and devoted friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: A private gathering of friends and family to celebrate the life of Carol will be held at a later date.
