PITTSFIELD -- Charles LeRoy Clemons Sr., 63, of 1 Maple Lane died Thursday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Springfield on Sept. 27, 1939, son of Ethel Jerrold Clemons Heishman Jordan and the late Howard Clemons, he was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School. He lived in Lee until moving to Pittsfield 20 years ago.
He served in the Air Force from 1957 to 1963.
At the time of his death, he was superintendent of buildings and grounds at Berkshire Country Day School in Stockbridge, where he had been employed for 13 years. Before that, he was employed by Clark Aiken in Lee for 24 years and at GE for a year.
He enjoyed building boats and traveling to Florida.
He and his wife, the former Joan E. Ferris Hathaway, were married Dec. 23, 1978.
Besides his wife and mother, of Chicopee, he leaves his stepfather, Paul Jordan of Chicopee; three sons, Charles L. Clemons Jr. of Becket, Howard G. Clemons of the state of Florida and Wayne F. Clemons of Pittsfield; four daughters, Cathy Knappenberger of Pennsylvania, Cheryl Nutbrown of Dalton, Cinda Hurteau of Easthampton and Pamela Wojtkowski of Hancock; two stepsons, William H. Hathaway III of Huntington and Christopher F. Hathaway of Hinsdale; two stepdaughters, Lori Stentiford of East Granby, Conn., and Marianne Boos of Pittsfield; a brother, Gaylan Heishman of West Springfield; two sisters, Diana Cassanelli of Avon, Conn., and Alayna Heishman of Northampton, and 23 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Charles L. Clemons Sr. will be Monday, March 24, at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 1 to 5 at the funeral home. Mr. Clemons loved his work at Berkshire Country Day School and his dog, Ginger. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Quinn’s Legacy or to Berkshire Country Day School, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
