Mr. Daniel A. Albano, age 36, of 76 Glory Dr. Pittsfield, passed away after a long and courageous battle with the disease of alcoholism. He was born in Pittsfield, Nov. 27, 1979, the son of Michael J. and Donna M. Ropelewski Albano. Educated in the local schools, he attended St. Joseph's High School where he played basketball . He then transferred to Millbrook Academy where he continued his basketball career. He returned to Pittsfield where he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1998. He assisted his parents in the management of the family restaurant that they owned for 15 years, Over the Rainbow Restaurant on First St. in Pittsfield. Following its sale, he worked side by side with his Dad in the operation of Broad South, Inc., a real estate company which operates multiple housing units. He was a loving person with a kind, caring soul. Always there with a 'helping hand and joke to tell ' . Dan struggled deeply with his addiction. As a result, , he was a huge part of the AA community in the Berkshires. Anyone who Danny, knew of his great enthusiasm for all New England sports, including the New England Patriots, the Boston Celtics and the Boston Red Sox. Danny will be missed by many. He was so loved by his family and his friends. In addition to his parents, Mike and Donna of Pittsfield, he is survived by his sister, Lauren R. Albano and her husband, Elliot Derricotte of Agawam and their 5 month old son, Julean. Additionally, he is survived by his uncle Mario Albano, aunt Carol Ropelewski and many other relatives. FUNERAL NOTICE: ALBANO, Daniel A., age 36, died Oct. 31st in Pittsfield, Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be FRIDAY from 4 to 7 . Funeral services will be held SATURDAY morning at 8:15 am from the funeral home followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the either the McGee Unit or to the Clinical Stabilization Unit, both at Berkshire Medical Center in care of the funeral home.

Dear Donna, Mike and Lauren,
I just heard about Danny's passing. Quinn is on FB with Lauren. I don't know why it came up in conversation with her just today.
I wanted you to know that I remember Danny from their pre-school and elementary days. He was such a boy! So much energy and full of fun ideas. He certainly knew he was loved. I'm deeply sorry for your pain and this tragic ending. I'm sure you were proud of his courage in fighting such a devastating disease. I just wanted to reach out and let you know I remember a little boy filled with light. He lives in the memory of people who haven't had contact with him in 20 + years! May you feel comforted in your time of grief.

Lauren and family,

I'm so so sorry for your loss. I have been thinking about the old days on Glory drive, Over the Rainbow, and how much you and Dan always made me laugh. You guys had a special bond that will never be broken. I remember when I lived on Elm St. Dan would always stop in his travels to borrow a Doors CD, and grab a drink of water. Then the next time he would bring the cd back and grab a different one. We would have long talks about who was more of a Rock Star, Jim Morrison or Mick Jagger.

I hadn't seen Dan in years and I ran into him over the spring at the gas station. He yelled across the store. Is that Miss Mary Mac, he was still the same friendly guy I knew years ago.

I know life is forever changed for you guys and if I can help in anyway please let me know.

I went to high school with Dan and remember his freshman year environmental science presentation like it was yesterday. He spoke about variations in fish.
