Douglas James Towart

1959 - 2024

Douglas J. "Doug" Towart, 64 of rural Norwalk, Ohio passed away on January 5, 2024 at his home following a brief illness.

Mr. Towart was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on December 20, 1959, the late son of James R. and Helen P. (née Piskorski) Towart. He grew up in Lanesborough, Massachusetts and graduated from Mount Greylock Regional High School. He held a bachelors degree in engineering from Worcester Polytechnic institute in Worcester, Massachusetts.

He retired from General Dynamics Missions System (General Electric, Martin Marietta, Lockheed Martin) after 36 years. During his career, Doug participated in many of our Navy's strategic and surface defense programs with assignments across the country. Doug was a talented engineer and leader having a significant impact on the people and teams he worked with. He enjoyed working on assignments that required him to work directly with our products being deployed and the warfighters that used them.

He loved to play music especially the bass guitar, playing rock and roll, bluegrass, a big fan of the Grateful Dead. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, watching the Seattle Seahawks football team, hiking, skiing, golf and spending time with friends and family. He also had the opportunity to race his good friend Jeff on the Daytona International Speedway attaining a top speed of 163 mph.

Doug is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years Kelly (née Alexander) Towart, step son Robert Alexander, grandson Aj Alexander of Seattle Wa., his sister Deborah Towart and significant other Rob Towart, with son Lachlan his wife Asheefa Towart and their children, Isla, Kieran all of the United Kingdom. Brother Geoff, his wife Lisa Towart of Pepperell, Ma.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew Gavin Towart.
