Edmund J. "Red" Sniezek

Edmund Joseph “Red” Sniezek, 76, of 110 Ashuelot St., Dalton, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at home.
Born in Adams on Oct. 24, 1927, he was the son of Michael and Mary Bednarz Sniezek. He was educated in Adams schools.
He served in the Army from 1946 to 1947.
Mr. Sniezek was employed as a winder in transformer department at General Electric in Pittsfield for 39 years, retiring in January 1988. Prior to that, he had worked in mills in Adams.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes’ Church and a longtime volunteer for the Catholic Stewardship Appeal. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners’ clubs. He was a fan of football and basketball, especially the Patriots and Celtics. He also enjoyed walking, hiking and camping. Most of all, he was a devoted family man.
He and his wife, the former Barbara Potter, were married April 23, 1949, in St. Stanislaus’ Church in Adams.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Alan Sniezek of Dalton, and Michael L. Sniezek and Peter E. Sniezek, both of Peru; three daughters, Cynthia A. Richardson of Windsor, and Christine L. Goodrich and Mildred M. Callahan, both of Dalton; a brother, John Sniezek of Adams; a sister, Sophie Dziegiel of Adams, nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
He is also survived by three sons-in-law, David Goodrich, James W. Callahan and Stephen H. Richardson; two daughters-in-law, Cheryl A. Sniezek and Janine M. Sniezek; nine grandchildren, Joshua Goodrich, Chad Goodrich, Tara Aldrich, Jennifer Sniezek, Joseph Sniezek, Ashley Sniezek, James Callahan Jr., Christopher Callahan and Austin Sniezek, and his great-granddaughters, Hanna Aldrich and Bailey Goodrich. He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Edmund Joseph “Red” Sniezek will be Friday at 9:15 at Dery-Foley Funeral Home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial concelebrated at 10 at St. Agnes’ Church by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor, and the Rev. Thomas B. Begley. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
