ADAMS -- Edward John Armata, 86, of 2 Summit Ave., died yesterday at the Holyoke Soldier's Home, where he had resided since November.
Born in Adams on Jan. 15, 1922, son of Ziginond and Julia Scieszka Armata, he attended local schools, including St. Stanislaus Kostka School.
A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the Marines on Oct. 22, 1940, serving as a sergeant with a Marine line company as a BAR man with combat duty in the South Pacific. He also served in Guadalcanal and China theaters. He was honorably discharged from San Diego.
Mr. Armata was employed by the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co., and also operated the Summit Electronics Shop in Adams. He retired in 1987 from the General Electric power transformer division as a technician in the test division.
Mr. Armata was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, as well as the Adams Post 160 American Legion.
He and his wife, the former Jane Frances Biros, were married Nov. 27, 1947. She died Aug. 29, 1989.
Mr. Armata leaves three sons, Peter Z. Armata of Adams, Michael E. Armata of Cheshire, and Paul J. Armata of North Adams; two daughters, Maryann Armata of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Susan M. Armata of Stockbridge; a sister, Sophie Armata of Adams; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Edward J. Armata, who died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church with the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor, officiating. Calling hours will be held at the MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow, from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery in Adams. Donations in Mr. Armata's memory may be made to the Holyoke Soldier's Home in care of the funeral home. Mr. Armata also leaves three daughters-in-law, Barbara (Peter), Paula (Michael) and Judy (Paul); and several nieces and nephews.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
