Mr. Kitterman (known to friends and family as "Michael") was born April 28, 1947 in Pensacola, Fla. to Edward and Olga Kitterman, both lifelong reisdents of Pittsfield. Michael married the former Dottie Lewis of Morehead City, N.C. with whom he had a son, Michael Patrick Kitterman. He was also "daddy" to Dottie's daugher, Missy (Lewis) Redfearn. Michael was an avid reader, and while in college also had some of his own writings about the Vietnam War published in Life magazine. He was an accomplished woodworker who built elaborately detailed model sailing vessels as a hobby. Michael is survivied by his beloved mother, Olga (Dondi) Kitterman of Pine Grove Dr., his brother, Thomas Kitterman, also of Pine Grove Drive; and his son, Michael Patrick Kitterman ("Mike") of Arden, N.C. A memorial service will be held in his honor at Top of the Plaza, Crowne Plaza in Pittsfield on Saturday, March 5th at 2 p.m. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in his name to the Disabled American Veterans organization.

Dear Auntie Olga, I was really upset to here about Mike. I don't know how to express what I feel. I remember how we used to get together as kids. We always had fun together. I did not know about it until Marlana told me today. I will pray for you and Tom. In fact I went to church tonight and said some prayers for Mike. Alex, Melanie and I want to express our deepest sympathy and may God hold you in his kind and loving hands! God bless you!

Sometimes your first love is the person who has the greatest influence on your life because he has shown you unconditional love, and surely Michael was this for me. I'll never forget him saying "The gift honors the giver" a phrase I have often repeated. His kind and considerate ways will always be foremost in my mind. Olga, thank you for being a second Mom to me. Tommy, you were my little brother. My love to the entire family who mourn for Michael.

Dearest Olga and Tommy,

My heart sank as Phil G. told me the news over the phone today. Later I sobbed when I told Pam the news. I remember Michael as a good brother to me when he was part of the Pepper family in the 60's and later. He was an exceptional man and a tender, sweet person. I last saw him at my dad's funeral, a very welcome visitor who surprised us with his loving concern, as we hadn't seen him in many years. We love you all and send God's grace, peace and blessings always (as Carl would say if he were still with us). All my love, Phoebe Pepper
