Ernest Fortini Obituary

It is with deep sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Ernest F. Fortini of Pittsfield, at the age of 76 years. Ernie, a loving father and papa, died peacefully with his children by his side on May 19, 2025.

Ernie was born on March 5, 1949 in Pittsfield son of the late Ernest J. Fortini and Marion Fennessey who raised him to be the person he was.

Ernie worked at G.E. and its successor companies for 31 years. Following G.E. he worked for the City of Pittsfield as the director of buildings and grounds maintenance for 13 years, retiring in 2011. As building maintenance director, he oversaw renovations of seven school buildings, secured funding for major renovations of Pittsfield High School dome and roof replacement, also secured funding and oversaw major renovations of Wahconah Park field and building.

He served in the US Army Reserves 1968-1974, as a combat medic in the 480th medical detachment.

Ernie was an avid sports fan of all New England teams, especially the Red Sox and the Bruins.

He was a member of several organizations: Elks, Italian American Club, East Side Men's Club, Dalton American Legion and School Building Needs Commission. He coached Little League Baseball, was vice president of South Little League and coached youth hockey.

Ernie's favorite times were spent with his grandsons, Vincenzo A. Fortini "Vinny" and Natale J. Fortini. He cherished every minute spent with his grandsons.

He loved vacationing on Sanibel Island, Florida with his daughter, Linda and grandsons. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends. Ernie's favorite and most enjoyable times golfing were spent with his son, Keith.

He was truly a #1 Dad. He will be remembered with love "to the moon and back."

Ernie is survived by his son, Keith M. Fortini and his daughter, Linda L. Fortini; Grandsons, Vinny and Natale; brother, James Fortini (Patricia) of North Fort Myers, Fl; sister, Marlene Rokoz (Bill) of North Fort Myers, Fl and sister, Janice McConnell.

Ernie was predeceased by his brother, Joseph H. Fortini, and step-father, Ed Fennessey.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held, Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. Graveside services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
