ADAMS -- Flora Katherine "Florence" Szymanski, 81, of 120 Friend St. died Thursday at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in Adams on April 5, 1924, daughter of Jan and Agata Rogowski Nowak, she was a 1942 graduate of the former Adams High School.
Mrs. Szymanski was employed in the accounting department of the former Sprague Products Co. in North Adams for 27 years, retiring in 1984.
She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality and St. Cecelia's Choir. She also seved as a lector and on many committees, including thos for the bazaars and picnics. She was a member and past president of the St. Stanislaus Parent-Teacher Group, the former TMTM Club, St. Michael's Society and the Adams World Day of Prayer committee. She volunteered for many years at North Adams Regional Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, bowling and baking cakes.
She and her husband, John G. Szymanski, would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary Aug. 30.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, David Szymanski of Bellevue, Neb., and Paul Szymanski of Attleboro; two brothers, Chester Nowak of Charlevoix, Mich., and Edmund Nowak of Clinton Township, Mich.; three sisters, Josephine Carpenter of Stony Point, N.Y., Genevieve Kornbacher of Troy, Mich., and Monica Nowak of Adams, and five grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Flora "Florence Szymanski will be Monday, Aug. 15, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Members of the St. Stanislaus Rosary Sodality will meet at the funeral home tomorrow at 3:45 to pay their respects and recite the Rosary.
