PITTSFIELD -- George O. "Archey" Archambault, 81, of 6 Lowden St. died Tuesday afternoon at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 22, 1923, son of Wilfred F. and Leona Patenaude Archambault, he was a member of the first graduating class of Notre Dame Grammar School and attended St. Joseph's Central High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1942 to 1946 as a corporal with Battery A, 108th Antiaircraft Artillery Group in southern France, the Rhineland and southern Europe.
Mr. Archambault was employed by GE for 33 years as a painter in the relations and utilities department, retiring in 1985.
He was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church, where he was an altar server and minister and involved with many other church affairs. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and the Ralph Froio Senior Center. He enjoyed painting and golfing and was a member of the Wednesday Morning Men's League Dew Chasers at Skyline Country Club.
He and his wife, the former Rita J. Bonneau, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary Aug. 24.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Joie L. Bourassa of Pittsfield; a brother, Marcel Archambault of Pittsfield; a sister, Sister Marie Wilfred of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, and a granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- George O. "Archey" Archambault, who died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, also leaves his granddaughter, Amy Bourassa Goodrich, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Saturday, Oct. 30, at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph's Church by Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Oct. 29, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Archambault may be made to the Chilian Missions of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield 01201.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
