George Haskins Obituary

George Allen Haskins died Nov. 2 at the age of 92 in Webster, N.Y., where he was a longtime resident. A banker and real estate appraiser, he was born in Amherst, graduated from Dartmouth College and earned his master's in management and finance at the University of Indiana. After serving two years in the Air Force, he joined Eastman Savings and Loan Association in Rochester, NY, retiring from there as vice president and treasurer.

He was active in his community, including volunteering to build houses with Habitat for Humanity during winters at his home on Seabrook Island, S.C. A birdwatcher since childhood, he was a cofounder of Seabrook Island Birders, an organization of more than 200 people concerned with birds and bird habitat. He was also an avid golfer and played into his late 80s.

Among the survivors is his sister, Ruth Bass of Richmond; his children, Scott Haskins (Karen); Steven Haskins (Nina) and Kimberly Cooney; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Hilda Haskins of Greenfield; his wife Barbara; and sister Janet Mandaville.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 15 at Wesley Methodist Church in Webster, N.Y.

We are so sorry we couldn't be there to honor & remember George. He was an amazing boss, terrific neighbor and more like a father from day one! We will miss him! May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

George was our neighbor for a short time. He was always out an about doing something in his yard. He was a pleasant person to talk to and always had a friendly "Hi." He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

George was a very competitive bowler in the Kodak Office Men´s National League. If he didn´t finish as top bowler for the year, he was second or third! Rest in peace my friend.
