George Jarck Obituary

George Henry Jarck, Sr., of Annandale, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on August 29, 1930, in Queens, New York, George lived a life filled with purpose, passion, and deep devotion to his family.

George attended Andrew Jackson High School, Queens, NY, where he was a standout basketball player. He continued his education at North Adams State College (now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts - MCLA), where he met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Hayden, in 1951. Together, they built a life rooted in love and partnership, settling in Annandale, New Jersey, where they remained for 44 years.

George proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran, embodying the values of duty, honor, and service that would guide him throughout his life.

He and Carolyn raised four children: Pamela Black and husband Randolph W. of Orange, NJ, George Jarck, Jr., of Charleston, SC, Matthew Jarck of Pittsfield, MA, Lisa Sweeney and husband Kevin of Southampton, PA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

George served for 30 years at North Adams State College, where he was a teacher, guidance counselor, basketball coach, and eventually Dean of Students. After relocating to New Jersey, he transitioned into marketing and consulting, concluding his career with the George S. May International Consulting Firm.

A man of many talents and interests, George owned a farm in Cheshire, Massachusetts, where he raised Black Angus cows, chickens, pigs, and his pride-two oxen that he showed in local 4-H fairs. He was a gifted athlete who enjoyed tennis, golf, basketball, biking, and skiing. He was ranked in New England in men's tennis and was inducted into the North Adams State College Hall of Fame as both a basketball player and coach. He was a talented artist and painter, exhibiting his work in numerous art shows over the years.

George was a teacher, scholar, coach, and a mentor to many. His wisdom, warmth, and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Carolyn Hayden Jarck, and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held on October 18, 2025 11am at Southview Cemetery in North Adams, Massachusetts, where family and friends will gather to celebrate George's extraordinary life.
