Grace Germanowski Obituary

Grace Germanowski passed at 93 in the loving home of her son Mark and daughter-in-law Heidi on July 10, 2021 in Sun City, AZ.

Grace was the daughter of Albert and Janette Schwab and grew up in Lenox Dale, Mass. In 1948 she married Edmund Germanowski and raised a family of six children in Pittsfield, Mass.

After retirement they soon began spending winters in Sun City. Grace loved nursing and was with Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield for 27 years before retiring as an RN. She received her Associates degree from Berkshire Community College at age 46. She was active in the nurses strike and was loved by her colleagues for her dedication and compassion.

Always there to help those in need, Grace volunteered in Pittsfield with Elder Services, the Visitor Center, Meals on Wheels and Ladies Auxiliary Post 68. In Sun City she loved the work of St Vincent de Paul. Grace helped in the office, served in the dining room, and had chaired the Giving Tree program. In Pittsfield, she attended Holy Family and St Joseph's Church. She was a member of The Mother's Guild and worked annually on the Polish picnic. Locally she was a parishioner at St Joachim and St Anne attending services as long as she was able.

Grace was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. She loved music and concerts. She enjoyed her golf leagues and walked the courses into her 90's. After the death of her husband in 2014 she moved to Sun City full time. Regardless of where she lived, she was always near family.

Since 2018 Grace had lived with her son Mark and daughter in law Heidi. She loved to be active and could frequently be seen walking the neighborhoods near their home.

Grace was preceded in death by Edmund (d.2014).

She is survived by her six children Paul (Ann) Germanowski, Joan (Sidney) Harris, Therese (James) Eby, Susan (Richard) Musacchio, Rosemarie (Frank) O'Gorman, Mark (Heidi) Germanowski, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

To Grace's family,
I met your mother in the 70's while working as a nurse at BUMC. We became closer friends during the nurses strike when we both served on the committee. In addition we played golf together at Skyline. I have a picture of Grace and some friends taken just before my husband and I moved to Sun City Hilton Head in 2004.
Your mother was a wonderful person, she will be missed.
Please accept my deepest sympathy and prayers.

Dear Mark & Family, I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Thinking of you during this difficult time.
I had no idea you were in Sun City - many fond memories of spending summers with my grandparents there (10626 Cimmaron Ct).

To the Germanowski Family,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on Graces' passing. Many, many, many years ago at BMC when I first began my nursing career, I had the good fortune of meeting and then having opportunities to with her. She was an excellent nurse, a lovely personality, and an absolute joy to work with. She was always on my list of "favs." from those many long years. You will all be in my thoughts & prayers.
