Guy Dellea Obituary

Guy "Butch" Dellea, of West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston on November 11th, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Born in 1948, Guy was a graduate of Williams High School, St. Bonaventure University, and Suffolk University Law School. He proudly served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Guy spent the majority of his career working in workforce development and job training for the City of Pittsfield, dedicating his professional life to helping others find purpose, dignity, and opportunity through meaningful work.

He was a man who loved the outdoors-especially hunting and fishing with his son Tony and grandson Lucas, whom he affectionately referred to as "little big man." He found peace at his beloved camp in the wilderness of northern Maine with his dogs, Abby and Boone. Guy also loved cooking for family and friends, showing his affection through the meals he prepared and the gatherings he inspired.

Known for his humor, generosity, and quiet dependability, Guy was the kind of person who offered help before being asked. He was patient and encouraging with his grandchildren, steadfast and loyal to his friends, and just stubborn enough to make everyone smile. He will be remembered for his kindness, his strength, and the warmth he brought to every table and every life he touched.

Guy is predeceased by his parents, Gaetano and Josephine Dellea and sisters Christine Skorput and Cynthia Haywood. Butch is survived by his children, Anthony Dellea and his wife Kerry, Christopher Dellea, and Amy-Marie Dellea; and by his grandchildren, Alexander, Olivia, Lucas, Lily, and Gianna, all of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his brother, Eugene Dellea, and Eugene's fiancée, Barbara Alibozek. He leaves behind his beloved partner, Janice Fredenburg, and her family, daughter Paula Ward and husband Jamie, daughter Debbie Wojtaszek, and grandchildren Christopher Ward and Rachel Ward, who held a special place in his heart. Guy will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, remembered for his humor, generosity, and the unwavering love he gave to his family, friends, and loyal dogs.

In keeping with Guy's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private service and celebration of life will be held in the spring.

"Butch" was my scoutmaster when I was a young Tenderfoot in Troop 30 of Stockbridge. I will always remember his kind, guiding force, and the way he always stood up for me and my potential. I'll also fondly remember his nickname for me - as a precocious youth with brain that was an information sponge, he lovingly called me "the professor." He always knew how to make the scouts under his care feel seen and feel like unique contributors to our modest Troop.

While I moved on to Troop 23 in Great Barrington where I later became an Eagle Scout, I never could have taken the first step on that journey without Guy's guidance. His presence in the world will be sorely missed.
