James Howe Obituary

James David Howe "Jim" of Darien, CT passed away at home on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 with family by his side. Jim was born on April 3, 1949, in Quincy, MA to the late Elliot and Phyllis Chambers Howe. He was 74 years old.

Jim graduated from Drury High School in North Adams, MA in the class of '67. He received a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1971 and a master's degree in computer science in 1977, both from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Jim's professional career spanned 46 years in technology, computing, and information management and included such positions as Chief Technology Officer at Usertech/Canterbury and Chief Information Officer/Chief Operating Officer for Renzulli Learning Systems. He retired from Yale New Haven Health in 2019 where he was a Systems Analysts configuring the Epic Electronic Medical Record as a member of the Inpatient Information & Technology Services team. During his tenure Jim collaborated with his team to deliver the latest features and functions available. Just before retiring Jim developed tools and reports to assist Nursing with outreach calls being made to patients who had been discharged from Yale New Haven Hospital. His custom configurations, within the Epic system, displaced a previously used application.

Jim is survived by his wife Elizabeth Howe, two sons, Aaron Howe of Glastonbury, CT and Mark Howe of Cape Coral, FL, his daughter Mary Howe of Stamford, CT as well as his grandchildren Jordan and Aiden Howe. Jim is also survived by one sister, Judy Yeaton of Jacksonville, FL.

Jim will be interred in the Southview Cemetery in North Adams, MA at a later date.

I went to high school with James. He was the nicest person and a friend to everyone. I am very saddened by his passing. My heart goes out to his family.

My older brother Howard and I had a lot of good times with Jim in the early 1960s. He spent a lot of time next door at the home of Mr. Chambers (as we knew him) the man who established the Drury High School Band. I always remember him as a really good guy. I knew and greatly admired his mom who was the school librarian at Drury for many years. He was instantly recognizable to us in the photo accompanying the obituary. R.I.P. sir, and congratulations on a life well lived.
