Jane Blair Marks Henriques, 82 years of age, passed away on September 1, 2025 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA, in the loving presence of three of her children.
Jane was born on September 10, 1942 in Buffalo, NY, to Charles Edwin Marks and Evelyn Burke Marks. She was the first of two children.
As a child, Jane loved playing and exploring with her neighborhood friends and younger sister, Nancy. Winter brought ice-skating adventures and joyful sled rides over the frozen ponds at the nearby golf course, pulled by her beloved dog Prince. Summers were filled with waterskiing at nearby lakes and enjoying the rich cultural events of the Berkshires with her parents and grandparents.
Jane was a 1960 graduate of Pittsfield High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts at UMass Amherst. In her early twenties, she met her would-be husband, Basilio Henriques. They married and had six children.
Jane dedicated herself to family, providing a warm, safe, caring, clean, comfortable, and loving home for them to grow and thrive-a foundational fact, forever respected and appreciated by all her children to this very day. For over 18 years, Jane extended her generosity by serving on the Board of the Fresh Air Fund. During that time, she opened her home as a Fresh Air host for a child who became a much-loved extension of the Henriques family.
Jane was a creative artist and lifelong outdoorsperson. She introduced her children to many activities that brought her joy including horseback riding, downhill skiing, waterskiing, cross-country skiing, kayaking, cycling, hiking, and more. She engaged with her community and participated in many equestrian shows, 5K fun runs, and even conquered the bicycle leg of the Josh Billings in 1993 and 1994.
In 1997, Jane and her husband amicably divorced, while remaining friends. With her children grown, she moved to a newly built home in
Pittsfield, MA and began the next exciting chapter of her life. In 2005, Jane embarked on an ambitious adventure co-constructing a small home in Frenchville, ME. She lived there for a year before fine tuning her plans and making her home-sweet-home in the small, peaceful town of
Brownville, ME where she lived until her passing.
Over the years, Jane worked in retail services and the tourism industry. She found her dream job with her daughter's Berkshire Tour Company, where Jane happily, proudly, and skillfully worked until just weeks before her passing.
Jane loved traveling to, and with, her family. She regularly visited her sons and their families in Arizona, California, and Ohio, as well as her daughters in Massachusetts. With family, she cruised Alaska and traveled internationally to London, Paris, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and more. Jane always loved returning to her roots in the Berkshires for cherished holiday gatherings and family reunions.
Jane Blair Marks Henriques is survived by her six children and their spouses: Nancy and Richard Hickey of Stoneham, MA; Stephen and Karen Henriques of Cincinnati, OH; Charles Henriques and Vanessa Pellegrini-Henriques of Woodland Hills, CA; Jonathan Henriques and Kai Zou of Napa, CA; Christine and Jason Mark of Northampton, MA; Michael Henriques and Alyssa Conn of San Francisco, CA; by her nine grandchildren Andrew, Alex, Violet, Charlie Grace, Ian, Tristan, Alec, Christopher, and Olivia; by her cousin Roger Marks and wife Donna Marks and their family; by her cousin Connie Marks; by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary and Pete Martinelli and their family; and Leah and Joseph Henriques and their family.
