John D. Ballentine

1928-2014 John D. Ballentine, a longtime resident of Williamstown, Mass. (1955-87), passed away quietly at age 85 on February 6, 2014 in his home at Brightwater, a Senior Living Community, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Born on July 29, 1928 in Schenectady, N.Y., Mr. Ballentine is the son of the late Edwin C. and Merle S. Ballentine of Mooretown, N.J. Mr. Ballentine and his wife of 63 years, Marjorie S. Ballentine, made their home in Surfside, S.C. commencing in 1988. A 1946 graduate of Moorestown High School, Mr. Ballentine attended Rutgers University and Northeastern University. An electrical engineer like his father, he was employed by Sprague Electric Company in North Adams, Mass. for more than thirty years. He worshiped, taught and served at First Baptist Church of North Adams during that same period of time and subsequently did the same at First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach (1988-2003) and Surfside Baptist Church (2003-14). Mr. Ballentine was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending quality time with his family, serving his church community, woodworking, playing golf, square dancing, and all things sports. A longtime high school football referee and church leader, Mr. Ballentine was a positive reinforcing influence on the young people with whom he worked. In addition to his wife, Marjorie, whom he married on June 10, 1950 in Moorestown, he is survived by his daughter, Carol B. Andrew and her husband Wallace Andrew of Canaan, N.H.; his son, Robert S. Ballentine and his wife Addie Ballentine of Houston, Tex.; two brothers, William E. Ballentine and Robert J. I worked at Sprague Electric in the Sales Department as John`s administrative assistant from 1970 to 1976. I learned alot from John during that short period of time and he made every day interesting. R.I.P. John, I will never forget you.
