Joseph Amuso Obituary

Joseph "Joe" F. Amuso, 72, of Pittsfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, with his loving family by his side. Born in Pittsfield, MA on October 22, 1949, he was the son of Dorothy Londergan Amuso and the late Joseph Amuso. Joe was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and earned his nursing degree from Berkshire Community College.

Joe was a Vietnam War veteran. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967, where he proudly served his country until 1971.

Joe was employed by Berkshire Medical Center. Most of his career was spent as charge nurse in the Emergency Department. He was well known there for his trauma skills, dedication to patient care and his definite sense of humor.

He was well loved by his coworkers and was a strong advocate for the ER staff as well as the patients he cared for. He proudly passed on the knowledge he had gained in his years of emergency nursing to the new nurses and doctors that passed through the doors of BMC.

Previously, Joe also worked as a paramedic and was a member of the Life Team which provided advanced care in the fields. After 38 years of proudly dedicated service, he retired in 2014.

Among many things, Joe loved music--listening to Bluegrass, playing his piano or banjo were amongst his favorites. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially farming and gardening. Together, he and Jo Ann worked hand in hand growing the tallest and most beautiful sunflowers you ever saw. He was so proud.

Besides his mother, Joe is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Sinopoli of Pittsfield, his five children, Joseph M. Amuso (Diane) of Stafford CT, Angela M. Capparelli (Rico) of Westerly RI, Sarah C. Baumann (Bill) of Hinsdale, Kristen D. Pinilla (Diego) of Marietta GA, and Abbigail L. Amuso also of Pittsfield. He also leaves behind Nicholas Sinopoli, and Dominic Sinopoli (Kim), 11 grandchildren, his siblings, Marjorie Wigglesworth (Peter) and Daniel Amuso (Joyce) and his sister-in-law Genevieve Amuso all of Pittsfield as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

In addition to his father, Joe was also predeceased by his brother, Peter Amuso.

Joe's family would also like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the staff at Mt. Carmel Care Center for their kind and compassionate care during his extended stay there.

While Joe will be greatly missed, we are comforted knowing that his time with us was, in his own words, "good enough." (Just not long enough) . "Good enough" for the memories to live on by all who were blessed to have known him.
