Kathleen Ryan Obituary

Kathleen Ryan, age 71, passed away at her home in Groton, Massachusetts on February 20, 2026.

Born on August 17, 1954, Kathleen was a daughter of the late Mary J. Denno and James V. Ryan. She grew up in Somerville, MA and was a graduate of the high school there. Shortly after graduation, Kathleen suffered a major accident resulting in permanent brain damage.

Her mother cared for her until her passing in the early 2000s when Kathleen transitioned into her beautiful home with BCARC in Housatonic, MA where she lived for over 20 years. More recently, as Kathleen's health continued to decline, she moved into a home with Seven Hills in Groton, MA.

Kathleen took great pride in her bedroom and loved to decorate. She was very fashion forward, loving jewelry, fun outfits and hats, and having her nails painted.

She was a true Irish girl from Boston; her wit and sass were unmatched. She could be the sweetest person, but if you were to cross her, she also knew how to make sure you never did it again. She loved the holidays, especially St. Patrick's Day. Kathleen always had sports on her television and most especially enjoyed cheering for the Red Sox, the Bruins, and watching wrestling.

Kathleen loved music, her favorites being country and rock and roll. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts projects with her house mates or at the day program she attended and often would make crafts for the people she loved.

Kathleen will be greatly missed by her BCARC and Seven Hills families.

SERVICES: An hour of visitation at the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA will be Monday, March 2, 2026 from 11-12PM. A graveside service will begin at 12:15PM at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Monsignor Riedl section.

What I will remember most about you, Kathleen? The way your eyes would sparkle when you spotted a pal across the room. Your capacity to be a true and consistent friend. Your enduring patience and positivity in confronting the challenges that life sent your way. I will remember the manner in which you allowed your artistic side to blossom, and your willingness to share your talent with other people. Your capacity to understand human nature, both good and bad. The way you carried yourself with confidence. Your ability to easily spot an inauthentic person and the terse or pithy comment you might make to deflate their hubris. Your appreciation of a quality wisecrack. Your enjoyment of a good meal. All the pleasure you took from life! I will miss you, old chum and I will cherish your friendship forever. I look forward to gossiping with you in the next life.
