Mary M. Benco

1942 - 2016 Mary Martha Benco died peacefully at Albany Medical Center on July 18, 2016 resulting from serious complications following a brief illness at Kimball Farms. She was the only child born to Julius and Anna Dulak Benco on December 28, 1942. In 1953 her mother died of Multiple Sclerosis and in 1962 her father married a widow, Anna Mordia. After 30 years of marriage, her father died in 1992 and her stepmother in 2004 in the Berkshires where Mary liked to visit. Mary was a graduate of the commercial diploma program at Julia Richman High School and worked as a clerk in the accounts departments of C.H Norton Publishers and lastly Misericordia Hospital. In 1985 Mary suffered a severe brain injury following sinus surgery and for the next three years resided at the Rusk Institute and Lynn Rehabilitative Facilities. Against all odds she was rehabilitated sufficiently to enable her to live independently in Danvers MA with the assistance of her live in companion Herbie, and enjoyed dining out going to events in Boston and travel. Upon the severe illness and subsequent death of her companion, she moved to the Berkshires where her stepsister, Susan and husband could continue to oversee her care, a long and difficult journey. She loved to indulge her passion for the latest fashions in clothing and jewelry, daytime TV, talk shows and the latest Hollywood gossip. She leaves her stepsister and brother in law Susan and Billy Kormanik, and step brother Edward. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service and burial will be in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery on Monday July 25th at 11:30 AM.
