Mary Egan Frattarola, 86, of Berkshire Place, previously of 6 Charisma Drive, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021 surrounded by friends and family. Mary was born on January 15, 1935 in Sharon, Connecticut to an American WWI veteran, the late John Egan, and his wife Isabella Parks, a first generation Irish immigrant from Manorhamilton County Leitrim. Mary immediately brought joy into the world for her parents and enjoyed a picturesque childhood surrounded by green pastures and beautiful farmland. She loved reading, going to school and made it clear from an early age she wanted to be a nurse.
Mary graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School and quickly pursued her dreams and attended the Henry W Bishop, III Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She graduated from nursing school in 1956 and for more than thirty years served as a compassionate and dedicated nurse at Pittsfield General Hospital, now Berkshire Medical Center.
In 1961, she met the love of her life, the late Romano J. Frattarola at the Dairy Queen in Pittsfield. Romeo and Mary were married for over 54 years and raised three beautiful girls. Mary was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Mary's the Morning Star Church. After its closing, she became an active member of St. Mark's Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and Meals on Wheels. Mary was also a board member of the Bishop Memorial Alumni Association for her nursing school.
In addition to her passion for volunteering, Mary was an excellent friend. She always supported those close to her with car rides and visits no matter the circumstances. But, above all else, Mary put her family first. She was a dedicated mom, grandma and aunt and was defined by taking care of those she loved. Her compassion and empathy to those near and far made a lasting impression on all she met and served as a remarkable standard for others to follow.
Mary leaves behind her children, Anita and Dan Farley of Mendham, NJ; Mary and Chris Leupold of Natick, MA; Theresa and David Hreschuk of Long Beach, CA; her 7 grandchildren, Colleen Farley (Eckert), Brenna Farley, Matthew, Michael, and Karin Leupold, Aidan and Bennett Hreschuk. Additionally, she leaves behind in-laws from Cornwall, NY; Gertrude Marvin, Anita and John Orlando along with many nieces, nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her two brothers, William and Robert Egan.
Our family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Berkshire Place and Hospice Care in The Berkshires for their kind and loving care of Mary. A special thank you to Josie Kelly, a long-time neighbor and family friend, for being a constant companion for Mary and comfort for our family during a difficult time. We are appreciative of her love and support and know she will forever hold a special place in Mary's heart.
