Nancy Coleman Wyand, aged 91, a long-time resident of Dalton, peacefully passed away on April 13, 2024 at her daughter's home in Georgetown, MA, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Nancy Helen Coleman in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on November 10, 1932, to Donald L. Sr., and Helen (Hutchinson) Coleman. Nancy was educated in Pittsfield public schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1950. She worked at Pittsfield General Hospital following her graduation, and after a long break to raise her children, she was employed at Sears for many years as a sales clerk.
On November 25, 1951, Nancy married her life-long sweetheart, Charles C. Wyand, Sr. They resided in Pittsfield for a few years, ultimately moving to Dalton for the rest of their lives, where they made their home and raised their five children.
Nancy was a member of First Baptist Church of Pittsfield for her entire life. She sang in the choir, taught in the Sunday School, and served on many boards and committees including The Board of Kingdom Extension, the Board of Deacons, and the Board of Christian Education. She also served for many years in the Feed My Sheep program and enjoyed the fellowship of dear friends through membership in the Myra Whittaker Chapter and, along with her husband, in the Double Ringers Couples Club.
Nancy was devoted to her family. She created a beautiful, loving home for them and never ceased to be a guiding light in the lives of her children. She and Chuck loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking their family on camping trips in the Berkshires and on Cape Cod. After their children gave them a canoe for their 25th anniversary, Nancy and Chuck spent the rest of their lives happily paddling all their favorite ponds as well as the beautiful marshes of the Cape Cod National Seashore, binoculars out to watch the birds. When the weather kept her indoors, Nancy also enjoyed cooking for family, church, and friends, and she loved to do counted cross stitch, stitching countless cards and pictures for her children and grandchildren, while Chuck made the frames.
Once their children married and had families of their own, Nancy and Chuck tirelessly traveled to visit all of their beloved 16 grandchildren, attempting (and largely succeeding) to be involved in their many, many birthdays, recitals, plays, dances, baptisms, graduations, and weddings. As the years went on, great-grandchildren came, 28 of them to date, with two more joyfully anticipated. Nancy, even throughout the constraints of the pandemic, sent cards to every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. She was greatly loved and treasured by every one of them.
Nancy was predeceased by Charles C. Wyand, Sr., her beloved husband of 68 years, by her parents, and by her four brothers Donald L., Jr., Robert M., David A., Sr., and Richard H. Coleman.
Nancy is survived by her five children and their spouses, Charles C. Wyand, Jr. (Susan) of East Lyme, CT, RoseAnne Holladay (Breck) of New Harbor, ME, Carol W. Stone (Glenn) of Sagamore Beach, MA, Laura J. Laflamme (Richard) of Georgetown, MA, and Robert C. Wyand (Susan) of Claremont, NH. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Gertrude (Wyand) Garrity of Lenox, MA, and her lifelong friend Jean Davis of Pittsfield.
The family would like to thank the staff of Tufts Medicine Care at Home - Hospice for their caring assistance during Nancy's last few weeks.
