Pamela Langevin Obituary

Pamela Cooke Langevin 1961-2012 It is with sadness we announce the death of Pamela Jean Langevin, beloved wife of Marc Langevin and devoted mother of Lilly Langevin, age 10, on March 23, 2012 following a scuba diving accident while diving in Grand Cayman where she resided. Pamela was born in Burlington, Vt., on October 28, 1961. She was the daughter of Everette (Ted) Cooke and the late Adell Martin Cooke originally of Swanton, Vt., and currently of Stephentown, N.Y. She is survived by a sister, Terry McAdams of Red Oak, Texas and a brother, Todd Cooke of Pittsfield, and her in-laws, Pierre and Jeannine Langevin of Paris. Pamela was educated primarily in the Pittsfield Schools, but also attended Swanton Union High School, and graduated from Taconic High School in 1979. Throughout her younger years she danced at Cantarella and Terpsichore Schools of dance under the direction of Madeline Culpo and Judy Drodz. She continued to study dance at The University of Massachusetts, where her instructors were impressed by her talent, and recommended her to move to Julliard School of dance. Instead, Pamela decided to move to Las Vegas, and launched a professional dancing career that lead her from Las Vegas, Reno, Madrid (Spain), Paris (France), Miami and many other places around the world. Through her passion, talent and hard work, she brought further success to her career, becoming principal Adagio dancer for the Lido in Paris, "Masquerade" in Miami, the Stardust, and Rios Hotel in Las Vegas. She simultaneously nurtured her passion for both jazz and ballet, offering her talent to choreographers who were inspired by her technical and performance ability. She later returned to her first love for classical ballet, and became principal and soloist Ballerina touring with several ballet Companies around the U.S. as guest artist in ballet such as Paquita, Giselle, The Nutcraker, Swan Lake, La Bayadere, and many more. While Pamela was working at the Lido in Paris, she met Marc Langevin in 1986 in Mallorca, Spain, where she was vacationing. They fell in love and married in 1988 in Paris. The couple lived together, travelling and supporting each other's career, and eventually adopted a little girl from China in 2002, bringing a new meaning to their life together. She found great rewards in communicating her love for dance to new generations, and became a successful dance instructor, inspiring young generation of dancers, from Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Cleveland, St Thomas, and lately Grand Cayman with her charismatic energy and her commitment. She most recently became certified as Zumba instructor, a fitness program which was a reflection of her own personality: passionate, hard working, fun and entertaining. Pam was known for her positive and energetic personality and as a passionate and compassionate person with the ability to interact with people from different walks of life all around the world. Her smile was communicative; she was an example and an inspiration for many to achieve their potential and fulfill their passion. Pamela will be cremated and her ashes will be spread around the world in places so dear to her heart. In place of funeral services a memorial remembrance ceremony will take place in Grand Cayman on April 17th, 2012 and will be shared later on her website over the Internet for the many friends and family scattered around the world. To honor Pamela's love of dance and her talent for inspiring that love into her dance students, the family will establish a philanthropic fund to support young children who may not otherwise be able to fulfill their passion of becoming dancers.

PAm was a dear, childhood friend of mine, and a true gift to us all. Although we lost touch many years ago, I hold fond memories of playing together in her "dance studio" at her home and of many laughs and fun times at my home. We grew up together, at Trinity United Methodist Church, in Pittsfield, Ma.. Great memories! Her indomitable spirit, joie de vivre and great talent from a young age will fondly and happily remain in my memory. Marc and lily, though I do not know you, I know with certainty that you have lost an amazing wife and mother. I am very glad that you found one another, and happiness, even for all too brief a time. I am so very sorry for your loss. Ted and Todd, my sincere condolences to you- Pam was simply amazing. I cannot believe that she is gone so suddenly. Very fondly, Beth Horton Conerly

P.s. If a Pittsfield memorial service is held I would like to come.

Dear Lily, Marc, Ted, & Todd,
I am so sad for your loss. Pam was an inspiration to me as my best friend on Churchill Street. Because of her I became passionate about dance at an early age and I always wanted to be just like her. Always so full of life and adventure. An odd twist of fate I will be in Grand Cayman the day after her services. She will be thought of fondly as my first true friend.

I was so sorry to hear about Pam's passing. Pam and I grew up together @ Trinity UMC. I went to many of her ballet recitals. The last time I saw her was in Paris in 1985. My husband Phil and I went to see her dance @ the Lido and then Pam, Phil, the owner's son from the Lido and I went out dancing the night away @ Le Garage. We had a wonderful time dancing, drinking champagne and catching up!!! We joked about how glamorous she was in her full length blue fox coat next to me in my pink down frumpy suburban housewife coat. I'll always remember her fondly. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
