Dawn, Stacia and family. Before I give condolences, I NEED to say it was a true honor to know your Dad. Two words are all I need to describe him. Integrity. Gentleman. If there were more Peter Giftos´s in the world, it would be a much better place. Hold on to the many wonderful memories you shared w/ him. I´m sorry for your loss, but I also smile, knowing he´s now at peace with the woman he cherished. That was very apparent in the last conversation we shared. He was certainly one of the good ones. Rest easy, my friend.

Peter or as he was sometimes called "Zeus" was a cherished friend and mentor for me. I was a young buck trying to establish a career and family and his sage advice made a lasting impact on me. He taught me that there is tremendous power in using your influence for good. I would help him learn to do things on his computer and he helped me learn how to do things in life. I was not one for keeping lists or calendars and he taught me "a short pencil is better than a long memory." I have thought of Peter often over the years and will keep all of his family in my thoughts.

My condolences go out to Peter´s family. I have fond memories of Peter and the Giftos family. I also have great memories of the wholesale business and when I visited the business on Elm St. as a youngster Peter would bring to the candy section and allow me to take some candy. As I recall I took an entire box of Reese´s Peanut butter cups.
More importantly Peter was a good man. Honorable, caring and always concerned for others.

I first met Peter at a meeting of the troop leadership of Troop 23 in Great Barrington as a youth. I was struck even then at his sense of humor, his quick smile, his gentle way of seeking common ground, and is willingness to seek wisdom from anyone - even (and sometimes especially) the young.
I went on to work with Peter at Chesterfield Scout Reservation, where (as far as I know) he first earned the nickname "Uncle Zeus" for his amazingly accurate weather forecasts. Despite being seen as the adult of the group of silly camp staff, he was always a strong part of that community.
My path crossed with Peter's again when I started working at Pittsfield Community Television, where he hosted "Know Your Berkshires" on behalf of his beloved Civitan club, produced and sometimes hosted "Upfront TV" for the Berkshire Republicans, and served on the PCTV Board of Directors. It was here that his spirit of collaboration and community really showed for me.
When I lost touch with Uncle Zeus, I was always hearted to know that he was living his life the same way he always had, with joy and community. Men like him are few and far between, and the light he brought to the world will be missed. I hope that those that he shared that light with will help carry Peter's memory on into the future.
