Robert A. Petell

1937 - 2022

Robert Albert Petell, 84, of Pittsfield, passed away May 8, 2022 at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility.

Born in Pittsfield on September 4, 1937, to the late Albert and Shirley Enright Petell. He was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1955 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was a United States Air Force Veteran.

Mr. Petell married the former Theresa M. Slonski on April 25, 1959.

He was employed as a machine operator, first by General Electric, followed by the former Shaeffer Eaton from 1969 until their closure, and finally at Crane and Company in Dalton, from which he retired.

A communicant of the former Holy Family Church, he was a member of the Lenox Sportsman Club, and the Dalton Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and was an avid hunter and NY Giants fan.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Petell of Pittsfield, daughters, Robin A. Petell and husband Manny Silveira of Lanesboro, Tina M. Wood and husband Richard of Pittsfield, and Lisa B. Duda and husband Jonathan of Lanesboro. Three grandchildren whom he adored, Heather, Makayla and Nicholas Duda. His sister, Christine Glazar and husband Gene of TN, as well and many nieces, nephews and his good friend, Mike Ellsworth.

He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Heisler.

The family of Robert Petell would like to thank the South 2 staff at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility for their continuous care, love and support throughout the past years.

Funeral Notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, SATURDAY, May 14, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by Rev. Daniel Cymer. Calling hours will precede the service from 8 to 9 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.
