Ruth M. Rieger

1927 - 2025

STEPHENTOWN, NY - Ruth M. (Sweener) Rieger passed peacefully from this life, at the age of 98 years, on October 25, 2025 in Tega Cay, South Carolina. Ruth grew up on the family farm in Stephentown with her parents Ulysses P. Sweener and Elizabeth (Traveis) Sweener along with her four brothers and three sisters. She held many different jobs over the years including waitressing at the Showboat, seamstress in the shirt shop in Lebanon Springs and as a nanny for Freling and Marilyn Smith in the 1940's. She worked at the Stephentown Medical Center for many years while running Ruth's Bakeshop and raising her seven children. Ruth retired as the Stephentown Town Tax collector in 2015 after serving 36 years. Ruth was extremely proud of her accomplishments. She was also a member of the local Quilter's Guild and a pillar of the community. A loving wife, mother and grandmother she will be greatly missed. She was wife of the late Joseph A. Rieger; mother of Joseph (Pam Feathers) Rieger, Lorraine (Donald) Vincent, Stephanie (Donald) DiCarlo, Michael (Heather) Rieger, Matthew (Rosalinda) Rieger, Ruth Frambach, Maria (Edward) Overcash; sister of Stella Jean Hoffman and sister-in-law to Linda Sweener; grandmother of Hattie Richardson, Mary Watkins, Marc Cummings, Andrew Homestead, Siera Yeager, Lauron Vincent, Sara DeCarlo, Daniella DiCarlo, Amber Rieger, Evelyn Fecuich, Matthew Rieger, Jeremiah DeLorme, Kyle DeLorme and Zachary Overcash. Friends are invited to visit with Ruth's family on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 4 pm until 7 pm at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY Route 43, Stephentown, NY. A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Ruth on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 1 pm in Immaculate Conception Church, 732 US-20 New Lebanon, NY for family and close friends. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Stephentown, NY. Those wishing to remember Ruth in a special way are asked to consider a donation to The Michael J.
