Steven Fruchterman Obituary

Steven Fruchterman, born on March 27, 1956 in Newark, NJ, passed away on September 12 at the age of 69. He grew up in Colonia, New Jersey and graduated from Colonia High School in 1974.

In 1981, he married Mary Brosky, and together they navigated life's milestones, building a family and memories along the way. In June of 2024, Mary and Steve left Pittsfield, MA after 37 years and relocated to sunny Salisbury, NC.

Steve devoted 22 years to Kay-Bee Toys before managing Big Lots in Pittsfield, MA for another 17 years, where he was respected not only for his work ethic but also for his warmth toward colleagues and customers alike.

Steve was a proud father to three children and grandfather to two grandchildren: Justin and his wife, Ashley Brouker, and their daughter, Emma; Tricia and her husband, Andrew Perron; and Cathi and her husband, Bo Pope, and their son, Emmitt. He also leaves behind his sister, Susan Smolenski (Fruchterman), and her husband, Tony Smolenski.

Known for his sharp sense of humor, love of music, and generous spirit, he found joy in simple pleasures-soaking in the sun during family trips to Cape Cod and the Jersey Shore, hunting for treasures while antiquing, or relaxing at home with his favorite music. Steve never missed an opportunity to express gratitude, especially to restaurant workers and patrons. He delighted in surprising others by paying their bills, leaving generous tips, and offering compliments that could make a stranger's day.

Steve leaves behind countless laughs, memorable one-liners, and a generosity that surprised and delighted everyone around him.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service. Those who wish to honor his memory are encouraged to make a donation in Steve's name to your local VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
