CORRECTION DEC. 4, 2004

Yesterday's obituary for Stewart Marvin Wilansky contained errors. His middle name was incorrect in the obituary and the funeral notice. His wife is the former Susan Cohen. Her name was also incorrect in the obituary.

LANESBORO -- Stewart Martin Wilansky, 61, of 71 Balance Rock Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, shortly after being admitted.

Born in Springfield on April 24, 1943, son of Morris and Gladys Robinson Wilansky, he was a 1961 graduate of the former Classical High School. He also graduated from the five-year course in electrical engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1966.

At the time of his death, he was employed as director of information systems at Mildred Elley in Pittsfield and in Latham, N.Y. Prior to this, he had worked as an electrical engineer in the former ordnance department at GE for 24 years. While employed there, he was sent to Vietnam twice to assist in the war effort. He also worked at Espey Manufacturing, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for three years.

He was a member of Congregation Knesset Israel. He was a ham radio operator and instructor. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, flying and playing "Jeopardy!"

He and his wife, the former Sandra Cohen, were married Aug. 27, 1972, at Chez Joseph in Agawam.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Matthew Wilansky of Newington, Conn.; a daughter, Rebecca Fitzgerald of Durham, Conn., and a sister, Doris Solomon of Springfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Stewart Martin Wilansky, age 61, was called safely home on Dec. 2, 2004. The funeral will be today, Friday, at noon at Congregation Knesset Israel with Rabbi Lynn Lieberman, spiritual leader, officiating. Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Scott Fitzgerald; his brother- and sister-in-law, Dr. Leonard and Margaret Cohen; another brother-in-law, Harold Solomon, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful companions, Alex and Ivan. The family will receive friends at the family home, 71 Balance Rock Road, after a meal of consolation at Knesset Israel Synagogue.

Hi Susan,

I learned of your husband's passing while spending Christmas Eve with my late wife's family in Adams. I'm very sorry and totally understand how you must feel....especially with the holidays upon us. Time will help you to heal but you'll always cherish the life and love that you shared. My four children and two grandchildren remind me of how lucky I was to have Paula for 35 years. Please feel free to email or meet to talk (over coffee at Dunkin Donuts) should the need arise. Best of Luck Always! Dave

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Stu's passing. My time with him for 3 1/2 years at Mildred Elley was one of the best I have had. His sense of humor and his knowledge was a gift to me. I am still in shock and can not believe he has left this world. In attending the service, my heart went out to the family. Matt's tribute to Stu with the morse code hit my heart deeply and tears flowed because I knew how much Stu loved doing that and we talked about it occasionally. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Stu will always have a special place in my heart and mind.

Becca, Mom, Matt, and Scott we are very sorry for the death of a wonderful man. We did not know him as well as we would have liked too, but knew what kind of man he was. Found that out at your wedding. I am sure he is leading a group of people in the after life in a song and dance. What a wonderful man. He will be missed

Please accept my condolences on the loss of Stu. Years ago I worked with him at Mildred Elley and considered him one of the nicest men I've ever known. He will be greatly missed by many, including myself.
