Thomas Morawiec Obituary

Mr. Thomas P. Morawiec, 80, of Lee, passed away on May 24, 2025.

Tom was born in Chicopee on September, 10, 1944, the son of John "Kaki" Morawiec and Stephanie "Tessie" (Piotrowski) Morawiec.

Mr. Morawiec married the former Donna Lee Welch on September 13, 1964. Mrs. Morawiec died June 26, 2023.

Tom's earliest employment was with the other members of his family at their restaurant, the Here U-R. After spending time with friends under a maple tree changing motors in cars, he worked at local garages. Tom went to work at the Kimberly-Clarke mills in Lee where he was employed as a machinist. Simultaneously he worked at Smith Lumber, his father-in-law's business. He remained throughout his life an excellent mechanic and the family car advisor. He loved watching Nascar and the car auctions on TV.

Tom was a 52 year member of Evening Star Lodge. He was also a member of the Morning Star Chapter, OES, for many years with his wife, Donna. Together they traveled all over New England and to Louisiana for Eastern Star events.

After thirty-five years of service, he retired from the Schweitzer paper company in 1999, Tom and Donna traveled extensively with their camper going to Myrtle Beach, Nashville, and many winters in Florida.

Mr. Morawiec leaves behind his two sons: James M. Morawiec and his wife Holly of Lee and Thomas O. Morawiec of Lee; three grandchildren: Lydia F. Morawiec, Bradford S. Morawiec and his wife Ashley of Georgia and Alek O'Brien and his wife Sarah of Westfield, MA; and his great-granddaughters: Aubrie Joyce O'Brien and Madeline Long. In addition he leaves his siblings: Christine Williamson (Stuart) of Lee, and Michael J. Morawiec (Rhona) of Georgia; his sister-in-law, Cyndi Smith; and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John, who is survived by his wife, Jo Ann.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Kelly Funeral Home on Monday, June 2, 5-6:30PM, concluding with a Masonic Service at 6:30. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 11:00AM at Fairmount Cemetery where Tom will be laid to rest next to his wife.

In lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Morawiec's memory may be made to either Hospice Care in the Berkshires or Shriner's Children's Hospital in Springfield. Checks made out to either may be mailed in care of Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
