Thomas Reilly Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Reilly, Jr., 60, of Pittsfield, passed away September 9, 2023 in the comfort of his home. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 27, 1962, the son of Lucille (Roy) Reilly and the late Thomas Reilly, he was a 1980 graduate of Taconic High School.

In 1985, Tom began working with his father-in-law, Jim, at Quillard Bros. Garage on Tyler Street. In 2008 Jim retired and Tom took over the business. Tom took pride in doing quality mechanical work on the cars, and perhaps more so, enjoyed the relationships he built with his customers. In the warm weather you'd find him drinking his morning coffee in the doorway and waving to customers as they drove by on their way to work.

As well as being a Mechanic, many knew Tom from his bartending days. He bartended at the Hilton, Skyline & Matt Reilly's Pub to name a few.

Tom was an avid hunter; he most loved deer and bird hunting. His hunting adventures took him through the woods in Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. His fondest memories and most frequently told hunting stories were from time spent hunting with his father-in-law, daughter, Shannon, and her family. He loved that just last fall he was able to hunt with his grandkids.

Tom was very involved with the community. While being a parishioner at St. Mary's Morningstar Parish , he was an Eucharistic Minister, on the Finance Committee, Parish Council, Bizarre Committee & more. As his kids were involved in sports, you'd often find Tom volunteering for those organizations as well.

Baseball was in Tom's blood; it was his passion. His lengthy baseball career began at the North Little League where he played for Jack Hogan on the Elk's Club. When Tom was 18, he began coaching with Jack for that same team. Later, his son, T.J., joined the team as a player and Tom loved having the opportunity to coach his son.

In 2001, Tom moved on to coaching Pittsfield Babe Ruth where he coached house league and all-stars. In 2008, Tom began umpiring for the Berkshire County Baseball Umpires Association (BCBUA) where he met some of his best friends. Over the years, Tom umpired many levels of baseball including High School JV, Varsity, and Babe Ruth. He was honored to umpire at many Regional & State Tournaments, including two Babe Ruth World Series.

In 2015, Tom wanted to find another way to reward local baseball players who were graduating from high school with something besides a trophy. It was that year that the 1st Annual BCBUA Golf Scholarship Tournament began. He loved to put this event together each year with his daughter, Lindsey. Tom was proud to see that vision come true with help from his core friends; he planned and executed the tournament until 2022.

In his free time, Tom enjoyed going to Yankee Stadium with family & friends where he was a proud partial-season ticket holder for ten years, spending time with friends at various local establishments, and in the last year, he most enjoyed spending time with his family.

Besides his father, Thomas E. Reilly, Tom was predeceased by his father-in-law, Jim Quillard

He is survived by his wife of forty years, the former Noreen Quillard, their three children, Shannon Borrelli (Jacob), T.J. Reilly, Lindsey MacDowell (Craig) and grandchildren, Alison MacDowell, Mario, Dylan & Addison Borrelli as well as his grand-pups Lux & JoJo Reilly.

Tom leaves behind his mother, Lucille, sisters, Roberta Scales (Brad), Kathy Reilly (Tony), Jeannie Reilly-Ortega (Matt), his mother-in-law, Theresa Quillard, sister-in-law, Nancy McLean (Jud), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Dear Kathy and family,

Though it´s been a few years since I saw Tom, I´ll always remember him as one of the kindest, funny guys I knew. I would see him at times when I visited the Berkshires and conversation would flow as if we never had a gap in between.
