Walter J. Gajda Sr.

Walter J. Gajda Sr. 88, of 303 Beaver St. North Adams, died Thursday Nov. 17, 2005, at his home.
Born in Adams on June 15, 1917, son of Thomas and Katherine (Piterah) Gajda. He attended schools there and graduated from the former Adams High School with the class of 1936.
Mr. Gajda was employed for 40 years at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, retiring in 1978. He also was the proprietor, along with his wife, of the Gajda Market on Beaver Street in North Adams for 25 years until 1971 when they ceased operations.
He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and North Adams Catholic Community. He also was a member of the General Electric Pensioners Club.
His wife, Helene T. (Roy) Gajda, whom he married May 30, 1939, at St. Francis of Assisi Church died June 25, 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl A. Westall and her husband, Donald, of Williamstown two sons, Thomas A. Gajda and his wife, Catherine, of Williamstown, and Walter J. Gajda Jr. and his wife, Laura of Lake Ozark, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Nicole Westall, Jacqueline Draper, Jaime Gajda, Matthew Gajda, Colleen Gajda, Thomas Gajda and Jacqueline Gajda.
He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters, John Gajda, Joseph Gajda, Frances Wilson, and Gladys Paradysz and Felicia Fleury.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The Family of Walter J. Gajda Sr. will gather to meet family and friends on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Memorial Donations are suggested for North Adams Regional Hospital through the funeral home.
