Marta Zavas Obituary

Marta Zavas (1948-2025) passed away peacefully at her home on June 24th, with her son and friends by her side. Marta moved to Big Bear in 1981 with her son, Paul, who was a freshman at BBHS. She spent years as a Hairstylist, owning Bear Mountain Hair Co, until retiring at 52. She spent the next 12 years with the love of her life, Skip Zavas, as snowbirds enjoying the Baja life in Los Barrilles, Mexico. Their next adventure was camp hosting in the Eastern Sierras at Robinson Creek, meeting happy campers and great fishing. After losing Skip in 2007, she joined the Hospital Auxiliary, where she loved helping others. She also did hair for the patients of the SNF Unit, making them look their best. Marta then moved on to volunteer at Dove's Thrift Store, and soon became part of the family there. Dove's was her happy place. Marta was diagnosed with Metastatic Uterine Carcinoma in May of 2023. In August 2023, she had a kidney removed followed by lung surgery 2 months later. Marta was told she was cancer free, but 3 months later it returned. After enduring chemotherapy, she decided she had enough and chose to go on Hospice, to spend her remaining time at home. Marta leaves behind her son, Paul Roberts, and many wonderful friends. She will be dearly missed.

She did my hair when I moved to Big Bear. Wild girl back then. Remember when she married Skip. Sorry to hear this
