Richard Muro Obituary

1935 – 2024
Richard Muro, 88, a faithful Christian man from Los Angeles, CA, returned home to God in Big Bear City, CA, on June 13th, 2024.
Richard Muro, born in East Los Angeles in 1935 to Eddie and Amy Muro, was the eldest of 5 siblings. He met Stella at the age of 14 and was married to her on December 10th, 1951. His early years were marked by struggles, often finding himself in conflict
with the law and the gang life. However, a significant event, the loss of his son Eddie to leukemia at age 4, sparked a profound transformation to become a follower of Christ. This tragedy led him to a life of devotion and service, becoming a beacon of faith and inspiration for all who knew him.
Richard was a devoted Christian who worked hard and loyally attended church. He helped start First Fundamental Bible Church of Los Angeles with his lifelong friend and pastor Alex Montoya. He was well known for his bold witnessing, often going back into the very neighborhoods he "gang banged" in. He decided to create a better quality of life for his family; he moved his home from Los Angeles City to the gorgeous mountains of Big Bear Lake, CA. He took on multiple jobs at the school district and ski resort and started his window-washing business there. The church he attended was Calvary Chapel of Big Bear Lake, CA, where he would spend most of his days working, handing out bulletins, and encouraging people in their faith.
His favorite Bible verse was Psalm 37:25: "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread" (NIV). His Christian values, dry humor, bold approach, and street-smart mentality informed every aspect of his life and molded him into a godly man, trustworthy friend, and everyone's favorite grandpa. After being faithfully married for 69 years, his wife Stella passed, and he used the last 4 years of his life even more devoted to his church, the community, and his family. He said his last form of work he wanted to do was evangelize, which he did even on his deathbed to those who visited him.
When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he simply replied, "an encourager." Richard was preceded in death by his son Eddie, his daughter Laura, and his beloved wife Stella, who he will meet again in Heaven, and is survived by his sons, Richard (Dickie) and Alfred (Fred), and his daughters, Yolanda (Yolie), and Lydia.
Richard Muro's celebration of life will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 22nd, at Calvary Chapel Big Bear at 1001 Holden Ave, Big Bear, CA 92314. Refreshments will be served. Please arrive early for parking and seating.

June 30, 2024

We lived in Big Bear for 30 years and it seems like we always knew Stella and Richard. My husband Tommy adored this man and he taught us so much how simple it is to love God. Such a character and such a dear friend. We knew him as "home boy" and what fun to be with him. I know that Tommy and Richard are enjoying each others company again in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Richard Muro was a good man and he ran a good race. God bless the Muro family--I love you, Morgan Poskitt

Sunday mornings, Richard never failed to shake my hand and greet with a great smile. We often went to lunch and talked about Faith and how important family was to him, especially Stella. A wonderful devout Christian I will see someday. We lost contact after my health took me off the mountain. May God Bless his family and friends who will be attending the Memorial. I wish I could go but my heart will be sitting in the front row. You were one of Gods hard workers, you fought the good fight and run the race. Thank You faithful servant. Fondly, Dave Johnson
