Walter Lee Obituary

Lee Wanshi, known on these shores as Walter Lee paid his toll and crossed the bridge to the beyond June 29 as the sky was turning midnight blue to black, the clock winds back it's 1940, he is surrounded by Cantonese sounds and the smell of his dad's chow mein, he grows and wanders into war torn Japanese streets his feet proceed to grasp the world, his school speaks Mandarin, his big brother tailors the uniforms of G.I. Joes and dresses his little brother in cowboy belts and the treats of the giants who bombed their neighborhood, he decides to travel to the land of the dawn's early light, and one fine day in 1960 he stands on a boat deck with his hands on hips under the Golden Gate Bridge ready to conquer and armed with a bible from Mr and Mrs Best and a curious mind he learns a 4th tongue and is educated to be an educator, later on he goes on a date blindly and is blinded by the beauty of a fair skinned lady native to his new nation, they wed while he sings the words of John Denver and dwell in the city until in 1978 the call of the mountains that crown the southland call them to grow their tiny kingdom they cook Chinese delights for their new townspeople, their children spend endless days of play in the forests of Erwin Lake, they all ski and ride the slopes of Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, the Chinese Boy from Japan became a man and found his promised land his children grown and gone and growing their own families he and his bride travel to foreign lands of beauty and as the years twilight and speech and movement leave him he never loses awareness nor love in his eyes for the world around him, beloved by family beloved by friends beloved by strangers above all Be Loved by his Bride by his Queen by his Partner

Maryon,
We sure enjoyed playing pickleball with you and Walter years back. I just read about Walter´s passing. Such a beautiful story about his life. Hope I see you in Big Bear, and maybe we can play pickleball again. Take care, Jana & Bill Bryant

We got to know and love Walter and Maryon through a home Bible study group. Walter was always ready to join in the fun with his quick wit and broad smile. He will be missed.

Walter has been a great friend from 1978. He cooked for my wedding at the Catholic Church in bbl. I live in Hiroshima and fortunately I will be in Big Bear on that day. Looking forward to seeing everyone and would be happy to say a few words. Bill Cleary
