BIG RAPIDS -- Charles A. Randolph, 66, of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at his residence.
He was born April 26, 1952, in Midland, the son of Rev. Bernard and Dorothy (Chadwick) Randolph, and graduated from Wayland Union High School in 1970. While attending Central Michigan University, Chuck was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he returned to CMU, and earned his bachelor of science degree in business administration.
On June 30, 1979, Chuck married Sandra Leaman, and they moved to Big Rapids in 1985. For 10 years, Chuck worked as the administrator for Mecosta County, and then served as the director of the Mecosta County Road Commission. In 1999, he purchased the United Glass Company in Big Rapids, which he continued to operate until his passing.
Chuck enjoyed playing softball and co-ed volleyball in the Big Rapids recreational leagues, and liked to golf as well. He loved his greyhounds Cindy, Jernagan and Aerie, and his favorite vacation spot was Tybee Island, Georgia. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids.
Surviving are his wife, Sandy; their two daughters, Amie, of Orlando, Florida, and Corie, of Los Angeles, California; four brothers, Steve (Peggy), of Hesperia, Douglas (Bonnie), of Spring Arbor, Dennis (Marge), Northfield, Minnesota, and Tom (JoEllen), of Midland; several nieces and nephews; and his cousin and best friend, Bill Dolan.
Chuck was preceded in death by his mother, in 2009; his father, in 2018; and his nephews, Brian and Scott.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Chuck's family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, and after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
