Don E. Hyder, age 88 of Barryton, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022. He was born in Remus on June 29, 1933, the son of Homer and Ruth (Papke) Hyder. Don graduated from Remus High School in 1951. He served his country honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War. Don was a dedicated member of the Gerald Pitts American Legion Post 473 in Barryton.
He married Rita on February 4, 1993. Don was employed with Michigan Bell for over 25 years. He then began his second career as grounds keeper for Chippewa Hills School District. Don enjoyed this type of work so much that he started Hyder's Lawn Care, which he owned and operated until his health failed a year ago.
Don was an outdoorsman; he enjoyed fishing and hunting of all kinds over the years, especially rabbit hunting with his beagles. He also had a large garden for many years. Don looked forward to watching the Chippewa Hills High School Basketball team. You could always find him in his hot tub even on the coldest days.
Don is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rita Hyder of Barryton; three sons, Dean Hyder of Lakeview, Marv (Karen) Hyder of Lowell, and Dale (Bonnie) Hyder of Copemish; two step-sons, Bill (Colleen) Dulyea of Rockford and Tim Dulyea of Idlewild; ten grandchildren, Kathryn, Kristi, Brock, Ken, Carly, William, April, Tim, Devin, and Rose; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Mavis Stickler of Belmont; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Navarre of Barryton and Carolyn Graves of Florida; and several nieces and nephews including his special niece Denise (Clyde) Place.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Albert Hyder, Doris Hinton, and Helen DeVries; grandson, Brian Martin; daughter-in-law, Patricia Hyder; first wife, Bonnie Hyder; and brother-in-law, Tony Graves.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Pastor David Jewell officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the FAMILY to be distributed to the organizations that helped with Don's care; Barryton American Legion, Papa's Place, Hospice, and the VA Hospital in Sandusky.
