Dora B. Mitchell, 101, of De Pere, passed into Eternal Life on October 1, 2024, met by her Lord and Savior. Dora was born on June 5, 1923 near Morley, Michigan, daughter of the late Roy and Thelma (Priest) Stilson. She graduated from Morley High School in 1941. She married her former classmate, Stan Mitchell, in September 1942. The following week they began work at the Willow Run Bomber Plant. Dora became a "Rosie the Riveter," working inside plane wings.
Dora and Stan raised three children, Larry, Gregg, and Cindy. Larry was born while Stan was serving in the Army in World War II and didn't see his son for the first 6 months.
After the war years, the family moved many places. Dora lived a life of faith as did her husband who worked 34 years for the DNR, State of Michigan and pastored a church in Dollar Bay where he was ordained. Dora served as organist and teacher, she became a school bus driver, drove logging trucks for 6 years and worked 20 years part time at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
They finally decided to move to Green Bay to be near doctors and their daughter Cindy. Stan went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 4, 2006.
Dora is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Brad) Lenss, grandson Chad (Miriam) Mitchell and their children: Emily and James, two additional grandsons: Matthew (Laura) Lenss and Adam (Kelsey) Lenss, 7 great-grandchildren, one brother, Gerald (Marlene) Stilson, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, 2 sons: Larry and Gregory Mitchell, 3 sisters: Kathleen Mitchell, Jylene Lewis, and Marilyn Elzinga.
Per Dora's wishes, there will be no service until later, with burial to take place at Stanwood Austin Cemetery where there will be a private family celebration of life.
