Gary Martin Taylor, born October 9, 1956, in Joliet, Ill., to Robert A. Taylor and Patricia A. (Madden) Taylor, passed away on December 10, 2022. Gary graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1974 and married the love of his life, Nancy Lindback, in 1977.
A proud military veteran, Gary served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1976 to 1980. He then worked as a civilian boiler operator at Norton AFB in San Bernardino, Calif., while raising three children with Nancy. After obtaining a bachelor's degree from California State University, San Bernardino in 1988, the family relocated to southeast Michigan. There, Gary began a career in facilities and project management before retiring from the University of Michigan, Dearborn in 2019.
Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He took great pride in his home and in his yard, where he found peace in bird watching, gardening and gathering with family and friends. His true passion, however, was music. Gary was an avid singer-songwriter who recorded and performed original works both as a solo artist and with his neighborhood troupe, the Country Club Band.
Gary is survived by his wife Nancy; sons Erik (Susanna Bost) and Matthew (Rima Hirayama); daughter Jill (Andy Sawman); grandchildren Sophia Sawman, Taj Taylor and Haylee Sawman; his mother Patricia; siblings Bob, Jackie, Patrick, Greg, Chris, Todd and Kelly; and many nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his father Robert and sister Amy.
