Joel MacWilliams Obituary

Joel MacWilliams
Barryton, Michigan
05/03/1958 - 10/28/2024
Joel MacWilliams of Barryton, Michigan crossed the rainbow bridge on October 28th, 2024 after a decade long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends and was 66 years old. Joel was the last of 5 children born to Charles & Nada MacWilliams.
He is survived by siblings Dianne (Dean) Brown, David (Ruth) MacWilliams, and Kathy (Steve) Skinner as well as 2 half brothers Markeith (Sue) Host and Charles (Elsa) MacWilliams, his daughter Katheryn (Matthew) and 2 grandsons, Gatsby and Oliver. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Susan (Steve) Moore, and his wife of 38 years, Christie. Christie battled multiple sclerosis and Joel was her primary caregiver for her for the last 28 years of her life.
Joel was driven to find the black or white in the gray world in which we live, hence he received a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of Michigan in 1980 and retired as a highly respected research engineer in the field of automotive safety (2018). He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener, golfer, backpacker, hunter, and fisherman. He enjoyed baking and was well known for his fruit pies which he learned from his great-grandmother.
Cremation has taken place and no public services will be held. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Daggett Funeral Home, Barryton. To leave a memory or share a condolence, please visit, www.daggettgilbertfuneralhome.com
