Timothy Porter Obituary

Timothy Porter
February 8, 2022
Timothy M. Porter, age 72 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born May 29, 1949 in Grand Rapids the son of Thomas and Florajane (Elliot) Porter. Tim grew up in Grand Rapids where he graduated from Union High School. He enrolled at Ferris State University graduating from the Automotive Program. Tim was an excellent mechanic, living and working in Grand Rapids.
On his 40th birthday Tim had an accident that broke both his arms and eventually took his leg. Moving on to the next chapter of his life, Tim met and married the former Susan Donley in 1999 and together they made their home in Big Rapids.
Tim was a faithful member of the Reed City Church of the Nazarene. He cooked at their monthly meals and at the Nazarene Teen Camp. He was a member of several car clubs and had served as the president for the Big Rapids Valley Car Club. He was also a member of the NSRA National.
Tim was easily identified because of his purple hot rod and known among some in Big Rapids as the "Street Walker"; a name he earned because of the time spent out walking with his children.
He is survived by his wife Susan and daughter Hannah Porter both of Big Rapids, children, Todd (Lisa) Porter of Cedar Springs, Amy Porter of Grand Rapids, Ryan Porter of Grand Rapids, Chuck Dulzo of Big Rapids, Sarah Litwiller of Reed City; step-children, Carmen Kitchen, Rebecca (Gustavo) Lopez, Robyn Kitchen all of Pontiac; 36 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Deb) Porter of Sand Lake; a sister, Terri (Jim) Sloma of Grand Rapids; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Jacob and Mike Porter.
A memorial service will take place 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Reed City Church of the Nazarene with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Church.

I am saddened to hear about Tim.
I met Tim shortly after starting here in Big Rapids in 1999.
I got to know Tim through his work with the car clubs. T I'm was a supporter of the Big Rapids Police Horse Jesse. Tim made sure to include us in the car shows and even created a trophy "Most likely to get a ticket from the police horse". This award has been presented at nearly all the Labor Day car shows since 2006.
Tim always made me feel welcome and appreciated.
I will miss him.
May God Bless you
