Roger Butrum, of Big Spring, joined the love of his life, Charleta, in heaven on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the age of 75; even though he would have everyone believe he was 21 days older than dirt, taught Fred Flintstone how to drive when they had square tires and lost a bet with God and still owed Him a dollar. Memorial Services will be 11:00am Monday, January 6, 2025, at Spring Creek Fellowship officiated by Lloyd Wells.
Roger was born March 8, 1949 in Mitchell, South Dakota to Robert and Lorraine Peterson Butrum. He graduated from Garretson High School in 1967. Roger moved to Big Spring in 1983. He married his Rock, Charleta, on December 10, 1993. He was a devoted Son, Dad, Pawpaw, Brother, Father-in-Law, Son-in-Law and Friend.
Roger was a hard-working man with many talents. He farmed, worked at racetracks and rodeos growing up before moving to Big Spring to work many years at Johnston Construction as a contractor, before serving over 10 years as the Maintenance Supervisor for Texas Department of Criminal Justice where he finally retired to spend the last of his years with his family and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by both parents, Robert and Lorraine Butrum; his wife and love of his life, Charleta; two children Mary Jo and Rodney; his father-in-law, James Findley and sisters-in law, Margaret Darling and Vicki Eastman.
Survivors include his 5 daughters – Lori Melaas and her husband Bill of Spokane Valley, WA, Jennifer Overton and her husband Jerry, Candi Whitehead and her husband Kenneth all of Big Spring, TX, Michelle Hoffman and her husband Tyler of Artesian, SD, and Bobbi Haynes and her husband Chris of Spokane, WA; 3 sons – Brian Mims and his wife Angie of Big Spring, TX, Matthew Mims and his wife Virginia of Spring, TX, and Stefen Stone and his wife Jenn of Midland, TX; sister Joleen Butrum Facile and her husband Donny of Sherman, SD; brother Duane Butrum and his wife Kris of Mitchell, SD; mother-in-law, Betty Findley of Big Spring; sister-in-law, Jamie Roberts and her husband Troy of Stanton, TX; 21 grandchildren – Chris Mims, Jason Butrum, Austin Butrum and his wife Nicole, Bryce Melaas, Eric Melaas, Rachel Hepper and husband Ryan, Malori Hepper, Shaunie Farmer, Gage Farmer, Hali Huckabee and her husband Alex, Spencer Wells and his wife Brooke, Courtney Golleher and husband Jayden, Brianna Mims, Olivia Mims, Savannah Humann, Layla Stone, Jade Butrum, Krysta Whitehead, Michael Butrum, Jamie Butrum and Bradley Eichman; 9 great grandchildren – Aubree Acosta, Paxtyn Acosta, Kaysen Kerby, Beau Walker, Beau Butrum, Dena Butrum, Griffin Huckabee, Thea Wells and Delilah Walker; and numerous, very loved nieces and nephews.
