He was born in Big Spring, TX, to Vernon and Gladys Shortes on November 30, 1943. He had a long career in farming. Hobbies included fishing, traveling, and playing blackjack.
Surviving family includes a son, Russ Shortes of Austin, TX; a daughter, Danae Shortes Russell, and her husband, Michael Russell of Lubbock, TX; a loving companion, Lily Lovan of Ft. Worth, TX; a nephew, Kelley Shortes, and his wife, Chasity, of Lubbock, TX; and grandkids, Devanie and Lily Russell of Lubbock, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don Shortes.
