Stanley Oswald "Stan" Nevin

1948 - 2025

Stanley (Stan) Oswald Nevin, 76, of Big Timber, Montana, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on September 6, 1948, to Tommy and Tillie Nevin, Stanley spent his early life on the family ranch on Sourdough; a location that held a special place in his heart his entire life. The family later moved to Big Timber where he developed a deeper appreciation for the Montana land and community that shaped him. In his early years, he spent his time fishing the rivers and streams and hunting the hills and mountains throughout Sweet Grass County. He was happiest when he was outdoors. He graduated from Sweet Grass County High School in 1967, with plans to attend an auto mechanics trade school. Though those plans were interrupted by a call to serve his nation during the Vietnam War, he became one of the most respected mechanics around. He was a proud and decorated soldier. Stanley served with honor and courage, earning two Bronze Stars with Valor and a Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifices in combat.

After returning home, Stanley built a life rooted in hard work, resilience, and dedication. He had 3 children, Tye Nevin, Tanya (Tom) Schiltz, and Todd (Jamie) Nevin and spent most of his adult career as a professional truck driver, logging over a million miles across the country. He drove during the golden age of truck driving and was a true modern day cowboy, riding his mighty steed on the open, asphalt range that crisscrossed the nation.

Stanley's greatest source of pride was his family. He shared his life with his beloved wife, Birdie, and together they created a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. He was a loyal father to Tye, Tanya and Todd and a caring stepfather to Jayme (Shawn) Doss and Heather (Brad) Fredricks. He cherished each of them, and his legacy will live on in their lives and the lives of his grandchildren Anna Bokma, Ella Bokma, Madi Nevin, Mason Nevin, Jade (Chase) Stephens, Nikki Fredricks and Kane Welch.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Tillie, his older brother Danny, and his eldest son Tye.

Stanley will be remembered not only for his mechanical genius, his service to his country and his work ethic, but for his steady presence, his sense of humor, and the way he cared deeply for those around him. His story is one of loyalty, grit, and love, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A service honoring Stanley's life will be held in the basement of the American Legion, in Big Timber, Montana, on Thursday August 28th, at 4 o'clock. The family wishes to thank all who have shared their love and support during this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Stanley's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society.
