Amanda Johnson Obituary
Amanda Margeretta Nygard was born on June 2, 1909, near Kindred, N.D., the daughter of Christ and Dorethea (Qualley) Nygard. As a child, all the brothers and sisters played different instruments and enjoyed sharing music together. She grew up in rural Kindred and attended country school.
On Nov. 9, 1929, Amanda was united in marriage to Bert Inglof Johnson in Kindred. They made their home in Brockton, where they farmed. Amanda and Bert delivered rural mail to North Brockton for over 50 years. Amanda also worked as a Postal Clerk in Brockton.
Amanda was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Brockton and also a member of the Brockton Woman's Club. She spent hours crocheting and knitting. She liked being outdoors in her flower garden. From the time she was a child, she loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ as an adult. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. Amanda enjoyed going to sporting events in Brockton. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and going to any events they were involved in. The love of her life, Bert, passed away in 1992. After that time, she spent many years with her daughter and son. She moved into Bridges Care Community in January of 2005.
Amanda is survived by one daughter, Patsy Krohmer, Ada; one son, Del Ray (Judy) Johnson, Staples; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ben, Conrad, Floyd and Edwin; sisters, Henrietta, Clara and Geneva; and a great-grandchild, Crystal Krohmer.
Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 19, at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel, Wolf Point, Mont., from 1 until 5 p.m., with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Her funeral service will be Monday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m., at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Brockton. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Brockton. Condolences may be sent to the family at [email protected] or www.stevensonandsons.com.
